Brett Banasiewicz surprised the world of BMX, at age 15, he decided to enter the Dew Tour Dirt Qualifiers in Chicago, Not only did Brett Qualify, he became the youngest rider to have ever won Dew Tour BMX Dirt! August 23, 2012, tragedy struck during a competition when a trick went wrong. Brett would have to fight for his life that day, remaining in a coma for 15 days, minimally conscious for the next 7 weeks. He suffered from a traumatic brain injury. Even though doctors did not hold out much hope that Brett would ride again, Brett fought hard to relearn the basics in life from eating, dressing, walking & talking to return to riding his bike less than a year later. Brett is still fighting to regain his life, to walk and to talk normal, and he’s determined to return to compete in his sport as he continues to also progress. He’s now inspiring thousands in & outside the world of bmx.

    What people are saying...

    • ….sometimes you just need a little help from your friends, and other times you make new friends during a very difficult time.  This is what happened to our family when our son, Brett Banasiewicz, suffered a traumatic brain injury on his BMX bike on August 23, 2011.  Dustin Grice is one of Brett’s BMX buddies that reached out to us about the Link Foundation.  Jeff Troldahl, founder of the Link Foundation, and Dustin Grice designed a “Maddog” bracelet with Brett’s signature colors pink and green.  The Link Foundation sold many bracelets via the internet and also allowed us to sell the bracelets at Brett’s BMX Skate Park.  The proceeds went to Brett’s mounting medical bills.  Brett was able to obtain the best care in the United States that also included hyperbarics.  Brett had to relocate to Texas because the state of Indiana is not licensed to administer hyperbarics  for TBI’s..
